Assessor
Our primary goal is to perform uniform, equalized, and fair assessments to all taxpayers.
Other Assessor duties are as follows:
Serves as secretary for the County Property Tax Assessment Board of Appeals (PTABOA)
Reviews and addresses all aspects of property appeals
Oversees the general reassessment process
Maintain Not-for Profit Exemptions and Sales Disclosures
Notify taxpayers of yearly assessment changes by providing a Notice of Assessment (Form 11)
We encourage taxpayers to ask questions regarding their assessments.
MY TAXES ARE TOO HIGH NOW WHAT
There are many aspects that go into a tax bill, understanding them is helpful to determine what has changed.
Did my assessment go up? Why and what can I do?
Indiana Assessments are based on market value in use. So, when you get your form 11 (notice of assessment) from the assessor’s office, look at it. Is the value stated what you think you can reasonably sell your property for in the market? If not, then file an appeal form 130 with the County Assessor. These forms are available online at www.dlgf.gov or in the Assessor’s office. You can also file an appeal at http://beacon.schneidercorp.com.
If your assessment is reasonably close to your marketable value, I would then check my deductions and be sure you currently have all possible.
